Young Agents Council announces 2018 award winners

Young agents who exemplify professionalism and ethical behavior were honored Friday during the invitation only Young Agents Council luncheon held in conjunction with FAIA’s 113th Anniversary Convention and Education Symposium at the Gaylord Palms Resort:

  • Young Agent of the Year (tie): Christine Billington, CIC, ACSR, AAI, Rogers, Gunter, Vaughn Insurance, Inc.; and Nicole L. Coppock, AIAM, Frank H. Furman, Inc.
  • Young Agent Associate Individual of the Year: Patrick Banis, CIC, Tower Hill Insurance Group, Inc.
  • Young Agents Company Partner of the Year: Capitol Preferred/Southern Fidelity Insurance Company.

Zone 6 luncheon to feature presentation on Citizens policy changes 

Bay area young agents are hosting Citizens Property Insurance Director of Agent Services Carl Rockman for an informative luncheon to help agents and customer service reps understand the critical changes in Citizens’ policy language coming July 1. The luncheon takes place Thursday, June 30 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Crafted Plate in St. Pete.

The event is open to all agents and industry associates. It’s free to YAC members, and $10 for nonmembers.

The luncheon also serves as an unofficial kick off for SmartStart4Kids, the council’s annual school-supply drive, so bring some school supplies or cash. Proceeds of a planned 50/50 raffle directly benefit Voices for Children.

Catch a class and a baseball game with Zone 5 agents 

Join young agents in Zone 5 for “Thirsty Thursday” on July 7 at Space Coast Stadium in Viera. The event starts with a CE class, Ignoring Flood Insurance Equals E&O Exposure. Stick around for a Brevard County Manatees baseball game, including an all you can eat dinner (with one free beer) and $2 draft beer. Admission is free for those who bring school supplies for the SmartStart4Kids drive. Register online to save your seat.

Florida YAC named committee of the year

2016 YAC AwardThe National Young Agents Committee (YAC) of the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America (IIABA or the Big “I”) presented its most prestigious annual award Oct. 2, 2015, to the Young Agents Council of the Florida Association of Insurance Agents during the annual Fall Leadership Conference in New Orleans.
“The Big ‘I’ is pleased to announce that, in recognition of their outstanding efforts on behalf of the independent agency system to cultivate and inspire the next generation of industry leaders, the Young Agents Council of the Florida Association of Insurance Agents is the 2015 Outstanding Young Agents Committee of the Year,” said David Walker, the 2014-2015 Big “I” chairman and president of Hartland Insurance Agency in Hartland, Michigan. 
The Young Agents Council of the Florida Association of Insurance Agents has received numerous other awards in previous years. 

“The Big ‘I’ Young Agents Committee is proud of the young agents all over country who support and promote the independent agency system and young agent chapters and programs in every state,” said Boyd McGehee, national Young Agents Committee chairman and president of Talladega Insurance in Talladega, Alabama. “The state young agent programs are creating the next generation of insurance leaders. They encourage political involvement, association membership, communications, community service, education and industry perpetuation through InVEST.”

Walker presented the awards at the 2015 Big “I” Young Agents Leadership Institute in New Orleans. 

“Young agents are our future leaders and the lifeline of the independent agency system,” says Robert Rusbuldt, Big “I” president & CEO. “We are proud of our young agent committees all over the country and excited to have them moving up the ranks. Their hard work, dedication and creative projects help cultivate future industry and association leaders.”

Founded in 1896, the Big “I” is the nation’s oldest and largest national association of independent insurance agents and brokers, representing a network of approximately a quarter of a million agents, brokers and their employees nationally. Its members are businesses that offer customers a choice of policies from a variety of insurance companies. Florida Young Agents Council collects two national awards

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Florida’s Young Agents Council (YAC) received two top honors at the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America (IIABA) Annual Young Agents & InsurPac State Chairpersons Legislative Luncheon. The event, held Wednesday, April 22, event is held in conjunction with the annual Big “I” Legislative Conference.

Brian ScarboroughFlorida InsurPac Chair and FAIA Vice Chair Brian Scarborough received 2014 InsurPac Young Agent Award for his enthusiasm and commitment to the cause.

“Brian lit a fire under agents of all ages and orchestrated a $12,000 increase in PAC receipts in the last four months of the year,” said Veronica Della Porta, Big “I” InsurPac chair and Florida national director. “If that wasn’t enough, he quarterbacked a $15,000 PAC-a-thon and has gone beyond the call of duty to help the Sunshine state top the fundraising charts and break records.”

Florida also received the Young Agent National Championship Award, which honors the state whose young agents donate the most money to InsurPac. Young agents from Florida contributed $11,179.

FAIA collects three awards at Big ‘I’ Fall Meeting

Political action and community involvement are hallmarks of FAIA’s Young Agents Council members, and their hard work earned them two awards at the Big “I” Leadership Conference, held last week in Grand Rapids, Michigan. FAIA’s YAC was recognized for Outstanding InVEST Support and Outstanding Political Involvement.

Also earning accolades at the conference was FAIA’s Education department, which earned an Excellence in Insurance Education Diamond award for the fifth consecutive year. The award recognizes state associations and staff who have made significant contributions to education for their members and the industry in the key area of class offerings, continuing education (CE), professionalism, designation offerings, industry collaboration, planning goals, marketing, resources, and more.
