Every FAIA agency member is assigned a Member Advocate (MA) to be their direct point of contact at the association. No matter what your question, our MAs can help. Laura Pearce, mother to two daughters, is Vice President and General Counsel at FAIA and regularly works with members. We sat down with Laura and talked to her about the best parts of her job, what she wishes more members knew about FAIA, and why Convention is her favorite FAIA event.
Laura Pearce
Vice President & General Counsel
Years with the association: 18 years
Hometown: Tallahassee, Fla.
What is your favorite part of your job?
I’d say it’s being able to help FAIA members with legal issues, licensing issues, and regulatory compliance issues. It’s always nice to be able to provide them with an answer when they have an important question.
What do you wish more members knew about FAIA?
I wish more members knew about our advocacy. Usually, when people think of advocacy, they think of legislative advocacy, which is one of the things I do. But advocacy also means helping members with other issues, including license, appointment, and compliance issues.
What’s your favorite FAIA Event?
Definitely Convention. I love all the activity and being able to connect with so many FAIA members at one time.
Who has made the biggest impact on your career up to this point?
That would be my dad. He was a lawyer and a lobbyist like me. He made me believe that I could do anything I wanted to do. He also encouraged me when I decided to follow the same career path as him and helped me along the way with his advice.
Who do you admire and why?
The person I admire most is my mom. She raised five children (I’m the oldest of the five) and had all of us within six years of each other. And she was an amazing mom in every way.
How would your best friend describe you?
My best friends always describe me as never wanting to miss a late-night party, yet always ready to go again the next morning, no matter how late we stay up!
What is your favorite thing?
My favorite thing is spending time with my daughters and their husbands, especially when we’re traveling.
Are cats or dogs better and why?
I love dogs because they love you unconditionally, and the perfect example is my Goldendoodle, Sugar.
What is one thing people are surprised to learn about you?
That I love cleaning my house. I get great satisfaction from cleaning the house and knowing that it’s going to be exactly how I want it to be when I’m done.
